The lyrics to the opening theme say it all - Cow and Chicken are brother and sister, being patiently raised in the suburbs by their hemispherically challenged Mum and Dad. They have the normal upsets of any kids their age - troubles with school, classmates, hardened criminals and a little red guy with horns and a pointed tail.
The extreme intelligence of I. M. Weasel is dramatically offset by I. R .Baboon. The two were born to complete, and complete they do, in every profession imaginable, from astronauts to bathysphere operator. Baboons jealous rages contrast nicely with Weasels cool-headed conniving in frankly animated show.
